Programme note

“-_-” seen inhabits a threshold between apparition and impact. A compressed, pitchless flurry opens the work: flute air, cello tremor and electronic particles arrive before stable pitch can cohere. From this rupture, three related states unfold. Low, hollow bubbles leave resonant traces; unstable harmonic clouds hover around blurred centres; dry upper-register attacks flicker through the residue. The fixed media acts not as accompaniment but as a third, volatile body—sometimes anticipating the duo, sometimes engulfing it, sometimes persisting as an afterimage.

Across the work, flute and cello move between breath, friction, glissando, oscillation and still harmonics. Their gestures repeatedly condense into brief surges, then disperse into quieter spectral fields. Attacks are never self-contained: each deposits a resonance that changes how the next sound is heard. By the closing passage, motion is suspended inside a narrow, high field, where acoustic and electronic spectra become difficult to separate.

The title presents a face reduced to three marks, followed by the fact of having been perceived. The music similarly asks what remains when presence is compressed into a signal: contour, pressure, residue and the unstable sensation of being seen.
